The community of Santa Clara shall have a high quality of life. Every member, including children and families, will be provided the best opportunities to thrive. I will work to break down walls and ensure all public and private entities collaborate to better our community.

Over 80% of voters polled say they want elected officials to prioritize children and families. What are the top three issues affecting our children and families and how will you make our region a place where all families can thrive?
The top three issues affecting our children and families are economic instability, access to quality education, and mental health challenges
To make our city a place where all families can thrive, I will promote economic stability by supporting job creation and affordable housing. I have seen families leave the area due to the high cost of living, so this is vital.
I will also support mental health by working to expand access to mental health services and community programs. We can achieve this by breaking down any silos that exist.
Lastly, I will work with SCUSD so that they continue ensuring equitable access to the best educational opportunities. -
High quality childcare improves school readiness and parents' workforce participation. What will you do to improve access to high quality childcare and preschool programs in our diverse communities?
To improve access to high-quality childcare and preschool programs, I will work to increase funding for childcare subsidies to make programs more affordable for families. Work to expand partnerships with local organizations to create more childcare centers, especially in underserved areas. Promote and support the early education workforce by providing better training and competitive wages. Also, help to promote inclusive programs that respect and reflect our community’s diversity. The states expansion of ELOP programs will help as well.
By addressing these areas, we can ensure that all children have the opportunity to thrive and parents can participate fully in the workforce. -
Much of the student achievement gap has been linked to the opportunity gap that children in low-income families and children of color confront (e.g., lack of access to healthy food, preschool, tutors, and enrichment activities). If elected, what will you do to increase equity of opportunity?
The State of CA is providing free lunch for all students in the state, but we need to continue to provide wrap around services to our students and families so that they have access to healthy food at home as well. The Santa Clara USD has continued to provide different pre-school and after school options, which have benefited from the state's investment in ELOP programs. If elected I will work to help provide facilities and opportunities that are closer to families.
-
What steps will you take to improve inclusion and outcomes for children with disabilities and their families in our community?
Ensure all school facilities and programs are fully accessible, including transportation and extracurricular activities. Advocate for more specialized staff, such as special education teachers and therapists, to provide tailored support. Implement inclusive teaching strategies and provide professional development for educators on best practices. Create strong partnerships with families to understand their needs and involve them in decision-making processes.
-
If elected, how will you use the resources of your new role to improve children's well-being and access to mental and behavioral health services?
Advocate for more school-based mental health professionals and services, ensuring early intervention and support. Work with local health organizations to provide comprehensive mental health resources and referrals. Launch initiatives to reduce stigma and educate families about available mental health services. Pursue grants and state funding to enhance mental health programs and facilities.
