Santa Clara County Voter's Guide On Children's Issues

City of Sunnyvale, District 2

Jim Davis

Children are the building blocks for the building of a better & stronger community

  1. Over 80% of voters polled say they want elected officials to prioritize children and families. What are the top three issues affecting our children and families and how will you make our region a place where all families can thrive?

Making sure that our children have good schools and that we make sure each child is reaching his or her grade level should be a priority
We need to make sure families have the proper nutrition.
I will work to make sure that the children have the proper tools to achieve in school.
The organizations such as Sunnyvale Community Services & Columbia Neighborhood Center work to achieve these goals and I support both organizations.

  2. High quality childcare improves school readiness and parents' workforce participation. What will you do to improve access to high quality childcare and preschool programs in our diverse communities?

The City of Sunnyvale already has after school programs and other community related programs which are aimed at our communities children. I will continue to support them.

  3. Much of the student achievement gap has been linked to the opportunity gap that children in low-income families and children of color confront (e.g., lack of access to healthy food, preschool, tutors, and enrichment activities). If elected, what will you do to increase equity of opportunity?

Sunnyvale will continue to provide after school programs and food supplements through different agencies. Issues of preschool and tutors are the domain of the school districts.

  4. What steps will you take to improve inclusion and outcomes for children with disabilities and their families in our community?

I will support the continuation of existing programs to assist families and children with disabilities. I will work with elected leaders in the County to promote programs of inclusion in our communities.

  5. If elected, how will you use the resources of your new role to improve children's well-being and access to mental and behavioral health services?

I will advocate for and speak on behalf of our children well being !
