As the mother of a recent high school graduate, I am committed to making our community a place where all young people can grow, thrive, and succeed. I will work to ensure an inclusive environment that celebrates diversity, provides high-quality education, and nurtures the next generation to reach their full potential.

  1. Over 80% of voters polled say they want elected officials to prioritize children and families. What are the top three issues affecting our children and families and how will you make our region a place where all families can thrive?

The top three issues affecting our children and families are access to quality education, mental health support, and community inclusivity. First, I will advocate for expanding educational programs that support diverse learning needs, ensuring every child receives a quality education. Second, I will prioritize mental health initiatives, promoting wellness centers in schools and training staff to recognize and address mental health challenges. Finally, I will work to create inclusive programs that celebrate our community's diversity, ensuring all families feel valued and supported. I want to build a thriving environment where all families have the resources and support needed to succeed.

  2. High quality childcare improves school readiness and parents' workforce participation. What will you do to improve access to high quality childcare and preschool programs in our diverse communities?

High-quality childcare is essential for school readiness and supports parents' workforce participation. To improve access, I will advocate for expanding partnerships with local early childhood education centers and creating more affordable, high-quality preschool options, especially for underserved families. Streamlining development processes for childcare facilities and building centers that reserve spaces for low-income families while providing subsidies are proven approaches. Collaborating with local organizations and state initiatives will ensure equitable access to early learning, support working parents, and strengthen our community's educational foundation.

  3. Much of the student achievement gap has been linked to the opportunity gap that children in low-income families and children of color confront (e.g., lack of access to healthy food, preschool, tutors, and enrichment activities). If elected, what will you do to increase equity of opportunity?

The MVLA School District has initiatives to support high school students facing access challenges. The AVID program provides academic support and college readiness skills for underserved students. The district also offers after-school programs that include tutoring, enrichment activities, and safe spaces for students. The Teen Center, located in a neighborhood with many lower-income families, features a homework center and enrichment opportunities. I will support these initiatives and advocate for expanding programs to ensure greater accessibility and resources for high school students, particularly those from low-income families, so they have the tools to succeed.

  4. What steps will you take to improve inclusion and outcomes for children with disabilities and their families in our community?

To improve inclusion and outcomes for children with disabilities and their families, I will support the MVLA School District's initiatives that promote diverse and accessible environments. This includes advocating for special education services tailored to individual needs and encouraging inclusive classrooms that allow students to learn alongside their peers. I will emphasize the importance of trained support staff and provide professional development for educators on best practices in inclusion. Additionally, I will promote collaboration with local organizations for enhanced resources and support, ensuring families receive the guidance they need, and the community is aware of the needs.

  5. If elected, how will you use the resources of your new role to improve children's well-being and access to mental and behavioral health services?

I will prioritize to address the mental health crisis among children by enhancing access to tailored mental and behavioral health services. I will advocate for wellness centers at each high school, staffed with licensed counselors to provide immediate support. Additionally, I will ensure educators are trained to identify and respond effectively to mental health needs. I will promote community education initiatives to destigmatize mental health challenges, helping families understand available resources and encouraging open conversations. I will ask to incorporate the life skills learning into health education to equip students with the tools to manage stress and build resilience.
