As an educator, a candidate council member, and a mother, I will relentlessly advocate for city policies that prioritize the well-being of families. My goal is to work for equitable access to resources, and to create safe, inclusive spaces for children to live and learn. My hope is that every child thrives in Morgan Hill.

  1. Over 80% of voters polled say they want elected officials to prioritize children and families. What are the top three issues affecting our children and families and how will you make our region a place where all families can thrive?

The top three issues affecting children and families in Morgan Hill are access to quality education, housing security, and mental health support. To address these, I will advocate for increased affordable housing and enhanced public resources and facilities. I will foster partnerships in the local childcare industry in an effort to making it accessible for all families. Additionally, I will work to increase mental health staff to ensure every child can receive support. By creating collaborative programs among local organizations, I will stive to foster a community that nurtures the potential of every child.

  2. High quality childcare improves school readiness and parents' workforce participation. What will you do to improve access to high quality childcare and preschool programs in our diverse communities?

Access to high-quality childcare and preschool programs is vital for early development as we parents and educators know. As a council member, I will propose establishing a task force to assess local needs and explore partnerships with community organizations to expand affordable options. Additionally and with the assistance of my peers, I will advocate for state and federal grants to increase funding for childcare initiatives, ensuring that all families, regardless of income, can access these essential services.

  3. Much of the student achievement gap has been linked to the opportunity gap that children in low-income families and children of color confront (e.g., lack of access to healthy food, preschool, tutors, and enrichment activities). If elected, what will you do to increase equity of opportunity?

Equity of opportunity is essential for every child's success. To increase equity, I will promote inclusive policies and guard against disparities in education, healthcare, and community resources. As a high school teacher, I understand the power of mentorship and I will work to establish mentorship programs connecting students with community leaders who will provide guidance and inspiration to students. Whenever the opportunity arises, I will push for policies that support families in underserved areas of Morgan Hill.

  4. What steps will you take to improve inclusion and outcomes for children with disabilities and their families in our community?

Improving inclusion and outcomes for children with disabilities is a fundamental responsibility and one with which I am experienced. As in my classroom, I will advocate for inclusive practices to meet diverse needs in all council decisioning. I will do all that I can to promote independence and success, ensuring every child, not matter what, has the opportunity to thrive.

  5. If elected, how will you use the resources of your new role to improve children's well-being and access to mental and behavioral health services?

I will advocate for the integration of mental health professionals into city services and programs, ensuring students can receive support without stigma. Collaborating with local mental health organizations, I will help promote awareness and early intervention. I will also push for policies that make mental health care more accessible for families in all of Morgan Hill. My goal is to work on creating a city environment where children feel safe to seek help and thrive emotionally.
