As a mother of neurodivergent children, I advocate for all kids and working families, especially those from low-income and diverse backgrounds. I support equitable access to after-school programs, affordable childcare, and safer neighborhoods, building a community where every child is safe, healthy, successful in learning, and thriving.

  1. Over 80% of voters polled say they want elected officials to prioritize children and families. What are the top three issues affecting our children and families and how will you make our region a place where all families can thrive?

The top issues affecting children and families are housing, affordable childcare, after-school programs, and safe neighborhoods. I understand how vital community support is, and city services at libraries and community centers provide refuge and connection. As a working mother, I’ve faced the challenge of finding affordable childcare, and the City of San Jose’s Parks and Rec department provides children with a safe, supportive environment. I’m committed to supporting the R.O.C.K. program and nonprofits with proven success in helping kids thrive. It takes a village to raise a child, and I will work to expand affordable housing, childcare, and community services for all our kids.

  2. High quality childcare improves school readiness and parents' workforce participation. What will you do to improve access to high quality childcare and preschool programs in our diverse communities?

To improve access to high-quality childcare and preschool programs, I will advocate for increased funding to expand affordable childcare options, especially in underserved communities. I support partnerships between the City of San Jose and proven nonprofit organizations to provide training and resources for caregivers. Additionally, I’ll work to expand programs like PRNS R.O.C.K After School Program and promote more childcare services at community centers that offer a safe, nurturing environment. By addressing affordability and accessibility, we can ensure all families in our diverse communities can access the childcare they need, helping children thrive and supporting working parents.

  3. Much of the student achievement gap has been linked to the opportunity gap that children in low-income families and children of color confront (e.g., lack of access to healthy food, preschool, tutors, and enrichment activities). If elected, what will you do to increase equity of opportunity?

As a mother, I strongly advocate for equity and inclusion for all children, regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, age, disability, background, or income. I support expanding access to affordable childcare, preschool, and after-school programs to close the opportunity gap. I support scholarships like the Safe Summer Initiative Grant (SSIG), ensuring San José residents can access programs regardless of financial hardship. I will also advocate for partnerships that provide tutoring, mentorship, and enrichment activities, helping to ensure every child has the opportunity to flourish.

  4. What steps will you take to improve inclusion and outcomes for children with disabilities and their families in our community?

As a mother of neurodivergent children, I know firsthand the importance of creating inclusive environments for all children, especially those with different abilities. To improve outcomes, I will advocate for expanding special education resources and inclusive city programs like Therapeutic Recreation Services (TRS). I will ensure that libraries, community centers, and other facilities meet the needs of children with diverse abilities. I will also support partnerships with nonprofits that provide supportive services, mentorship, and learning opportunities, creating a community where all children can thrive.

  5. If elected, how will you use the resources of your new role to improve children's well-being and access to mental and behavioral health services?

I will work with Santa Clara County Supervisors to ensure District 6 and County staff collaborate to help constituents and children access mental and behavioral health services. I fully support expanding the County’s TRUST program, which helps residents in crisis without police involvement. This is especially important for families needing urgent services and those with non-apparent disabilities to get the care they need during a mental health crisis. I will also use my voice to advocate for additional county and state funding support to provide more wraparound services.
